Small Peace, the Day Wendell Berry Died
He’s an indoor cat, but I let him out tonight
For both your sakes
He is white
And black
And now orange and gray and green
With seeds along his belly
He rolled
And looked upward
And in holes
And spent a long time just sniffing
With his mouth open
Gaping at the sounds and smells
The peace of wild things
Before I brought him back indoors
So I can keep him
