Roxanne Bellamy
I've spent my career making complicated things legible.
For fifteen years, I worked as an editor and editorial director—most recently at CAPTRUST, one of the largest investment advisory firms in the United States, and currently as Editor in Chief of VESTED magazine. I know how to write for sophisticated, skeptical audiences. I know how to build a publication from the ground up. And I know the difference between a story that lands and one that disappears is almost never the quality of the underlying work. It's the quality of the telling.
A few years ago, I started pointing my experience toward the work I’m most passionate about: ocean health, marine conservation, ecological restoration, and the climate transition. I'm now pursuing an ALM in Sustainability at Harvard, with coursework in environmental conservation, ecology, climate adaptation policy, water systems, and sustainable tourism. I bring the same editorial rigor I applied to financial communications to the scientific and conservation communities, and I think that crossover is rare enough to be genuinely useful.
I also live what I believe in: grit, adventure, and introspection. I’ve finished more than 20 marathons and ultramarathons, including four Boston Marathons in the fastest qualifying age group and the Kauai 50 Miler. I hike, dive, snorkel, paddle board, surf, and backpack. I've stood on Trolltunga and watched a lunar eclipse over Ringedalsvatnet lake. I've slept in Haleakala (with food poisoning). I’ve seen lobsters fight each other on a coral boulder off the coast of Belize. The natural world isn't just my subject matter. It's the reason I get up and keep going. That changes how I write.
I work with a small number of clients at a time, on a project or quarterly basis. I'm not a marketing agency, so I don’t offer high-volume content production or daily approvals (but if that’s what you need, I have a network of freelancers I can recommend).
What I offer is senior editorial thinking, careful writing, and a genuine stake in the outcome. If you're doing work that matters for the ocean or the planet, and you need someone who can help you say so in a way that actually works, I'd love to meet you.
